The Appointments node of the Schedule Ability is where you can create, edit, delete, and maintain appointments in MacPractice.
There are several options available to adjust the Appointments node in Schedule Preferences which you may want to review to custom-tailor the Schedule Ability to your specific needs.
The main view of the Appointments node displays the schedule for the currently selected day in the Small Calendar, located in the lower left corner of the MacPractice window. Each appointment is represented by a colored block. The columns represent your different Resources, which are covered in the Resources node article. You can also adjust how the appointment blocks are visually displayed by checking out the Appointment Display node.
Double-clicking on an appointment block will bring up the Appointment Detail window, where you adjust some specifics of an appointment, including the Type, Status, and the Provider. You can also adjust patient details there.
You can also move appointments around by clicking and dragging an appointment block to the desired location. Alternately, you can open up the Appointment Detail window and edit the date and time in the upper right hand corner, as indicated in the above screenshot.
If the Preference to allow overlaps with appointments/block timeslots is checked, then any appointments that may be overlapped will appear with a red border around both appointments.
When you create an appointment in this way, the Appointment Detail window will open after the appointment is created. The Appointment Display window contains several demographic fields regarding the appointment's patient, including the patient name, DOB, phone numbers, type, status, appointment provider, and a place for notes.
If a patient is selected, the patient's demographics will automatically pull in.
With no patient selected, the Appointment Detail window will not have a patient pre-selected. You can click the magnifying glass icon to the left of the Patient ID field, which will open up a search window where you can either search for an existing patient. Once a patient is selected, the Acct# field will auto-populate with the correct account number.
You can also create a new patient by first entering the patient's name into the Appointment Detail window's Last Name and First Name fields, then click the magnifying glass icon and check "Create New Patient" in the lower left corner of the patient search window.
When you have adjusted the appointment detail fields to your liking, click the Save button to return to the Schedule. The appointment will be created.
